Good Bye, Great Grandpa Laurie

With all the wonderful milestones that Mason and Chase have conquered so quickly that if you blink you'll miss it, we came to a stand still last week as we approached our very first unpleasant milestone, the death of Great Grandpa Laurie.

The milestone came quicker than planned but not unexpected. Luckily, the twins' and I had just seen Great Grandpa Laurie less than 3 weeks prior to his death. I decided to make a Minnesota trip on the whim which turned out to be a great decision. Great Grandpa Laurie seemed the same, at least how he's been since they've been born but the Grandpa I remember had been long gone due to his growing dementia.

I feel so lucky that my children met there Great Grandpa and that the twins and I were able to be apart of a four living generation family. With people having their children later in life, there is going to come a time when you don't even meet your Grandparents let along Great Grandparents. He is gone now; in heaven with Great Grandma Betty, the Great Grandparent the twins' never met but would have loved at first sight.

Even though Great Grandpa Laurie wasn't able to really interact with the twins' since they were only 18 months when he passed, he has touched them in ways they both don't even know. They will grow up eating and loving his bread, well actually it is Laurie's mother's recipe but I know it as Laurie's bread. They even helped me make it when we were in Minnesota which also happened to be the last time they saw Great Grandpa Laurie. They play around and even set toys on furniture he made for me as a teenager that we have in our house. I'm sure when they are older, they will get tired of hearing the same stories about their Great Grandpa Laurie and just how Great he really was.

Love and Miss you.
