First trip to the movie theater

Well, we can officially cross another "first" off the list.  The kids went to their first movie a couple weeks ago.  The three kids and I ventured out on a snowy, cold day and saw Alvin and the Chipmunks.  It was a cute movie and I was surprised that it kept the twins' attention for almost the whole thing.  Of course one of my fears with going to a movie with twin two year olds without another adult, was that the twins wouldn't sit down and watch the movie, but would run around screaming and distract the other movie watchers.  Fortunately, they only got up to run around the theater at the last 10 minutes of the movie.  They loved going up and down all the steps, so I'm glad that they didn't notice all the stairs until the end of the show.  I anticipated that they would love doing this, so part of my strategy was to get into the movie once it was dark and the previews were already planning.  Looks like my strategy worked!

Still, I still cannot believe how lucky I got with the whole movie experience.  The kids behaved and most importantly, we were the only ones in the theater.  I guess the 10:25 AM showing on a Friday isn't a popular time to go see a movie.  I will have to remember this next time I want to venture out with them to go see their second movie.  The time even worked well with Miss Piper because it coincided with her morning nap, so she just slept most of the movie.  She did wake up at the beginning because it was really loud, but then she got use to it and just fell back asleep.

Since the movie trip happened on a whim, when I told Jonathan of my new plans he thought I was crazy.  Taking three kids two and under  to a movie all by myself does sound crazy, but the trip was a success.  Part of the reason the movie experience went so smoothly was because the boys got their very own kid snack pack that included a lemonade, popcorn, and a box of candy.  You can image their excitement when they got candy.  They rarely get candy because like any kid, they love it.  So once they had their movie snacks, they were perfectly content sitting in their chair watching the movie while they ate out of their kid's pack.  All in all, a great experience and I'm happy I was there to share it with them.

One sleeping baby and two happy boys, check and check!

Two happy boys watching their first movie in the theater.
